Metro
The metro in Amsterdam runs on its own tracks, completely separated from other traffic in and around Amsterdam. Part of the route of the Amsterdam metro lies underground in a tunnel and part lies on an elevated track. Level crossings with other traffic are avoided. Travelling in Amsterdam with the metro is therefore quick and reliable.
The metro and light rail lines (sneltram) not only provide a fast link between suburban, industrial and business areas of Amsterdam, but also give direct access to the regional and national railroad network. In this way, a large area throughout Amsterdam and surroundings can be reached quite easily and quickly, while using the public transport system.
