Hotel Arena knows a rich history. Our building is already more than a hundred years old. In 1890 the complex was built as a Roman-Catholic orphanage. This Saint Elizabeth asylum had this function until the fifties. In 1982 the municipality of Amsterdam decided to open a Sleep-in in the building. In this way the great request for lowbudget-accommodations could be answered. During this period the Sleep-in also unfold itself into a well-known popstage. Many great bands such as Iggy Pop, Status Quo and Marilyn Manson were on the stage. After drastic reconstructions, in which the restaurant and cafe were taken in use, Arena opened her doors. By now we have grown into a large scale three star hotel with a popular restaurant and one of Amsterdam's hottest nightsclubs, it attracts both local people and international travellers. The beautiful garden is one of the citys best kept secrets. The architectural grandeur of the building and the fashionable interior design, form a surprisingly pleasant contrast. Hotel Arena is situated on the edge of Amsterdam's historical centre, with the peaceful Oosterpark right next door and the Artis Zoo and the Ethnological museum just a short walk away. Hotel Arena is easily reached both by car and public transport and there is a parking area on the grounds. |
